GFA is a full-service consulting firm that provides civil engineering, surveying, construction services, and contract operations with superlative experience, dedication, and reputation. Established in 1948 in downtown Traverse City as the John C. Norton Company, GFA has blossomed into an integral part of the growth of not only our home city, but much of the surrounding areas. "Neighbors building strong communities… together." That’s not just a tagline, that is how we here at GFA approach every single day and every single project.
Civil Engineering provides some of the crucial groundwork that our modern society is constructed upon. Important examples include well-made roads, drinking water infrastructure, sanitary sewer infrastructure, storm water management, bridges, as well as the structural components of buildings.
Surveying is the Art and Science of making measurements. In Land Surveying, the Surveyor is tasked with making measurements, research, and the interpretation of evidence, both from what was found in the field, and through their research.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a structured geographic or spatial data set created via information collection, management, and analysis for the express purpose of optimum decision making and asset management. The Gourdie-Fraser team uses GIS to gather, modify, interpret, and analyze wide arrays of geospatial data to provide best possible insight toward achieving our client’s aims.
Developers wanted to turn this 40-acre parcel in Long Lake Township into the next phase of an existing residential subdivision. With GFA’s planning and design expertise, 28 new residential units with views of the surrounding countryside, and some with direct frontage on South Twin Lake, were able to be developed and constructed on this vacant parcel by Walton Contracting, Inc.
