Eighth Street is one of the main east-west traffic routes in the City of Traverse City. GFA worked with the City of Traverse City to provide full design and construction services to completely reconstruct the three block corridor between Railroad Avenue and Boardman Avenue. Multiple traffic studies and community visioning sessions were held during the design phase to aid in the planning of what the reconstructed corridor would look like and how it would work to address traffic congestion that was typical on the road. The reconstruction consisted of full storm sewer, watermain and sanitary sewer replacements, concrete curb and gutters, sidewalk, designated bike lanes, safe pedestrian crossing, and streetscaping. The project was completed by Team Elmer's and GFA was awarded an Award of Excellence from Builders Exchange of Northwest Michigan for the project.
