The Glen Lake Community Schools facility locate in Maple City, Michigan serves 700-800 students each year. The existing septic system and drain fields that served the facility had surpassed their useful life and were beginning to show signs of failure. Steep topography on the site provided challenges for locating new drain fields and reserve drain field locations. GFA designed a new system to service the school that consisted of 230 feet of 8" sanitary sewer and associated manholes, eight 4,000 gallon single compartment septic tanks, three 3,350 gallon dosing tanks, a duplex pumping system, 1,330 feet of 3" SDR 21 PVC forcemain and the construction of three 32 foot by 209 foot drain fields including a 3-way diversion valve and three 6-way distribution valves. The existing drain fields and infrastructure were removed from the site. GFA prepared permit applications and obtained permits from the Benzie-Leelanau County Health Department, as well as a Groundwater Discharge Permit from EGLE for the project. Construction was completed in the summer of 2024 by Popp Excavating.
