Manistee River Railroad Bridge

Manistee River Railroad Bridge

GFA provided full-time inspection and material testing services in support of the Michigan Department of Transporation (MDOT) for this innovative engineering project. The project, constructed by Kiewit, included the replacement of the existing GLC Railroad Bridge ove the Manistee River with a new 18 foot wide by 279 foot long bridge.  This $34 million project replaced the existing structure that was well past its useful life. The new bridge improves service performance and the ability to meet demands, helps restore railroad timetable speeds, increases the load rating of the structure to allow 286,000-pound railcars, and preserves rail service to commodity shippers in the northwestern Lower Peninsula.
