Kate Stassen, formerly of the renowned Riverside Inn in Leland, had a vision to convert the Old Samaritan's Closet at 25 S Lake Leelanau Drive in the Village of Lake Leelanau into a specialty wine and provisions shop, deemed Peninsula Provisions. Peninsula Provisions features a diverse selection of wines, cheeses, cured meats, grab-an-go appetizers, dips, prepared foods, ice and more. The design team was comprised of Balongue Design for the interior design and layout and Architetra for the architectural building design. GFA was brought aboard the design team to provide site engineering and land use consulting services for the project. As the property was undergoing a change of use, GFA was tasked in preparing site civil drawings, ensuring the site was in compliance with current zoning regulations, and obtaining all local agency approvals and a Land Use Permit from the Township Planning Commission. The site improvements included a new asphalt parking lot, building addition, walk-in-cooler, screening, outdoor seating area, ice machine, dumpster enclosure and more. Poor drainage and soils on the small site required a unique storm water management approach and easements from adjacent neighbors to slowly release storm water into an existing drainage way while minimizing the system footprint to maintain room for a parking lot. Peninsula Provisions provides grab-and-go meal options perfect for local worked on lunch break or visitors to the area who may be heading out for a hike or on their boat for the day.
