In 2024, GFA worked with the Village of Thompsonville for improvements to their potable water system after EGLE placed the water system under an Administrative Consent Order (ACO) and required additional water main installation to create looping within the system to eliminate the creation of disinfection by products (DPB). Additionally, 2 of the existing water systems wells were over 70 years old and the wellhouse over 40 years old and beyond life expectancy. The elevated water tank also needed cleaning, painting, and upgrades to appurtenances per a tank inspection. GFA prepared a Preliminary Engineering Report on behalf of the Village to seek funding opportunities through the USDA Rural Development Grant Program. The Village was succesful in receiving a $1,853,000 grant with another $900,000.00 Village approved loan. In total, the $2,753,000.00 project included two new wells with SCADA, painting of the elevated water tank and appurtenance repairs, the installation of 258 water meters in existing residences, and approximately 3,200 ft of 8" water main along Michigan Avenue, Second Street, and McCall Avenue. The project was completed in the summer of 2024 by Cole, Inc., J & N Construction, and Fedewa. GFA provided full engineering design, construction oversite and surveying services for this project.
